Susan Thompson-Brown, MPT, DPT, RYTSusan is a doctor of Physical Therapy, who has dedicated over 30 years to the art and science of physical therapy and movement. Her specialization in manual therapy and holistic movement strategies are tailored towards individualized management of complex conditions and pain. Within the heart of her practice is an enduring passion for the intricate process of healing.
Her uniquely comprehensive approach integrates an array of gentle yet specific manual techniques, including Integrative Manual Therapy, myofascial release, craniosacral and neural tissue releases, and visceral techniques. By merging active techniques with the principles of yoga and pilates, Susan cultivates personalized strategies that resonate with each client’s individual needs. Individualized instruction on lifestyle and symptom management are provided, building a therapeutic experience that extends beyond the treatment sessions. Grounding her expertise in a strong academic foundation, Susan earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Montana, a Masters in Physical Therapy from Northern Arizona University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Science and Exercise Physiology from the University of Arizona. She holds extensive training credentials in Integrative Manual Therapy through Dialogues in Contemporary Rehabilitation, craniosacral therapy through Upledger Institute, Strain/Counterstrain Technique through Jones Institute, and more. She is certified in Dry Needling technique through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. Susan is a certified Mindfulness Practitioner through Evergreen. She is a member of the Vagas Nerve Society, a multidisciplinary, international team of clinicians and researchers. Susan's lifelong passion for movement and dance include instructing jazz, latin jazz, and yoga/dance fusion classes in Portland, Maine. She founded, managed, choreographed for and performed with contemporary dance company indiedanceworks from 2008-2017. Her love for yoga led her to become a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance, training with Sacred Seeds yoga school in 2012 and in Yin Yoga & Meditation. She has additional training in mat and reformer pilates through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute. Her creative approach to movement spearheaded the Flexible Athlete program, and Manual Restorative Release, an approach melding restorative yoga with hands-on manual techniques, designed to alleviate chronic pain, myofascial restrictions, and long-lasting postural dysfunction. |
